Our Story

• Manfred Grumberg, the founder and inventor of ROBE, was profoundly shaped by his personal experience caring for his mother during the final years of her life in a nursing facility. By her side every day, he witnessed the immense dedication of the caregiving staff, but also the physical and emotional toll placed on both caregivers and patients alike.
• This intimate journey became the driving force behind Manfred's vision — to create a meaningful, accessible solution that would ease the burden on caregivers while restoring comfort and dignity to individuals confined to bed.
• He recognized that many people in similar situations are cared for at home, often by family members with limited external support, and that the high cost and complexity of existing medical equipment created significant barriers.
• Motivated by a commitment to simplicity, affordability, and human dignity, Manfred set out to design a system that could integrate seamlessly into existing beds. ROBE was born: a user-friendly device that operates with the touch of a button, offering relief, independence, and renewed quality of life for those who need it most.

The Technology

ROBE is an innovative medical device developed to prevent pressure ulcers by supporting frequent, safe, and gentle repositioning of bedridden patients. The system is designed to improve patient comfort and reduce the physical burden on caregivers, whether in hospitals, long-term care facilities, or home environments. The device works by gently lifting and suspending the patient slightly above the mattress, allowing smooth and controlled transitions between positions—on the back, sides, or stomach. This minimizes pressure points and reduces friction, which are key factors in the development of pressure injuries. Using a motorized support system, ROBE allows caregivers to perform repositioning with minimal physical effort while maintaining full control over the speed, direction, and frequency of the movement. This ensures a calm and stable experience for the patient and helps maintain care routines consistently throughout the day and night. In addition, ROBE features integrated monitoring and logging capabilities. Every repositioning action—whether initiated by a caregiver or part of a routine—is recorded. The system tracks key details such as timing and positioning, offering valuable insights for care teams and ensuring compliance with clinical guidelines. This transparent documentation helps support high standards of care and enables better communication between caregivers, clinicians, and family members. By focusing on simplicity, safety, and reliability, ROBE enables high-quality care that adapts to the needs of both patients and those who care for them.
